The 9 volume work ?The Handbook of the Birds of Europe, The Middle East and North Africa, also popularly known as ?The Birds of the Western Palearctic? was finally completed in 1994. There has been an expansion in the knowledge of the avifauna in the Western Palearctic since this time ; the focus of these BWP updates was to bring up-to-date the original accounts in the 9 volume work up-to-date. 'The style and format of the handbook is largely maintained, but supplementary material is published where appropriate. In particular, information on conservation is included where possible'. This set covers 9 issues over three volumes for the years 1997 to 2001. The issues remain in near fine condition - a light bump to the tail of the spine of volume three number one - this issue is also a little faded to the spine. The text supported by maps and some illustrations. The paper-covered slipcase has some splitting to the paper at both the head and the tail, but is clean and essentially remains sturdy and strong. A near fine set in more than acceptable slipcase.
