About This Item

[Detroit, MI & London, UK: Cadillac Motor Car Co., F.S. Bennett, Ltd., (Cadillac Motors, Ltd.), 1913.] Tall 8vo. 36 pp. Illustrated title, numerous photo illustrations, text illustrations throughout, green-tinted woodcut-engraved borders. Embossed & illustrated brown textured softcovers, Cadillac badge and Arts & Crafts design motif front cover, illust. of Cadillac in 1701 on back cover, yapp edges, NF copy. First edition, thus, of this scarce dealer’s brochure for the 1913 Cadillac models which was the first year that the Cadillac Motor Car Co. used their “Standard of the World” slogan, which appeared on the vehicle’s Motometer. Cadillac had pioneered precision manufacturing with 1/1000th of an inch as their standard of measurement, and produced remarkable high-quality Brass Era cars which after 1912 featured the electric starter, inspired by the death of Byron Carter of Cartercar’s fame in a freak crank-starter kicking back. The models at the palatial showroom in Pall Mall, London at F.S. Bennett included the 5-passenger Touring Car, 6-passenger Touring Car, Cadillac Torpedo, Phaeton, Roadster, and Coupe. The 1913 Phaeton was a new body style, which along with the other 1913 models featured more graceful sweeping lines, and a full cowl, as well as enclosed driver controls, along with new trim molding, featuring a 365.8 cubic inch engine producing 60 horsepower. Two models featured London-made bodies, which were the Cadillac Cabriolet, and the Laudaulette. No copies located in Worldcat.
