London: Printed by and for G. Smeeton, 1814. 8vo. viii, 163, [1] pp. Engravd frntsp. Quarter plum-coloured cloth over gray boards (mnr bmpng hd & ft of spine, to crnrs, vry slght foxng), still a VG copy, from library of W.H. King, w/ hand-written index tipped-in. First edition, 1 of 350 copies printed, of this scarce and invaluable reference contemporary price-guide providing a survey of mainly British artists and engravers, each with a short biography. These artists include Thomas Geminus, Simon de Passe, Reginald Elstracke, Robert Vaughan, Wenceslaus Hollar, and many others. Caulfield (1764-1826), began collecting engravings & art as a young child, and during the Georgian period his knowledge of English history and biography was unequalled amongst any other booksellers, or print sellers of the period.
