Titlepage vignettes + 96 engravings (inc map of Scotland) by William Bartlett (1809-1854), Thomas Allom (1804-1872) and others.. Two Volumes complete, quarto 275x215mm 3/4 leather with marbled boards, spines on 4 raised bands with gilt decoration & labels, all edges gilt (marbled paper scuffed, corners bumped, Vol 1 front board re-attached with matching leather repairs to spine), signatures on FEPs (F. Carruthers, Lancaster & D. Collier). Added illustrated title pages ("SCOTLAND, by William Beattie, M.D."), Vol 1 viii +[2] +200 +[2]pp, Vol 2 [6] +172pp. Light edge-browning to most plates with darker water-staining to edges of some (notably towards end Vol 2), but no damage to printed area of plates or to text. Overall condition of both vols Good. *Beautiful engravings of Scottish scenery throughout by well-known artists.
