About This Item

Boston: Wright & Potter, 1871. Hardcover. Near Fine. Octavo size, 59 pp. Marshall P. Wilder gave the lecture printed in this book "following a visit to California for the examination of its agricultural and horticultural resources" (per Cowan), first to the Boston Mercantile Library Association in 1870; the book contains detailed information on California's climate, plants, topography, and numerous other resources that make California an appealing destination. This, along with numerous other reports of the wonders to be found in California, encouraged thousands to make the then-arduous journey West.

This volume is ex-library, with markings on the title page only, and bound in a newer cloth hardcover case.

___DESCRIPTION: Full brown cloth, top edge stained brown, fore- and bottom edges speckled brown; octavo size (9" by 5.75"), pagination: [i-iv] [1] 2-31 [24 blank pages following the text].

___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with clean boards, straight corners with no rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, and the interior is clean and bright; very light specks of foxing to the margins of the interior pages, title page with some loss to the top edge, but does not obscure text. This volume is ex-library with stamping and light pencil markings to the title page only.

___CITATION: Cowan (1933 edition), p. 683.

___POSTAGE:  International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details.
