(Cape Town: Maskew Miller, 1963). 8vo; original pale boards, lettered in gilt on spine; pictorial dustwrapper, housed in removable protector; pp. xv + (i) + 182; plates. Dustwrapper very slightly rubbed and edgeworn; occasional fox spot. Very good condition. 'To the credit of the descendants of the 1820 Settlers a considerable amount of literature is now available about these pioneers and their times in South Africa. This book by May Bell, while covering some of the same historical facts, as is inevitable in any work on the Settlers, is the story of particular families, notably the George Woods and the Hooles. As she herself says, "it is the story of the intertwined lives of a few of the people" who made Eastern Province history.' .
