Modern calf, morocco label, gilt ruled and lettered, light browning, else well preserved, with the bookplate of William Alexander; the Taussig copy First edition of one of some twenty works by the prolific Brydall, "reflect[ing] a very wide range of jurisprudential expertise", this the copy which he seemingly presented to his father ("Presidio Veritas / ex dono authoris filii / charissimi mei")

Recent calf, blind frames to boards, gilt fillets and lettering piece to spine, endpapers renewed. A few minor scratches to boards, light fading to front board, faint offsetting to preliminaries, retained later armorial bookplate (of William Alexander) to front pastedown, later monogram bookplate (RFG) to recto of first blank. London: Printed for William Crooke, 1676, 1676. First edition. ESTC R2537; Wing B-5253. Hinges and chipped edges of the free endpapers neatly repaired; very good copy in contemporary state.. Small 8vo, contemporary blind-ruled sheep, brown leather label, gilt lettering. With the first and final blanks and three pages of publisher's terminal advertisements. An interesting guide to the landmarks and civic structure of London by a lawyer and author on legal matters, John Brydall (circa 1635-1705). He writes about the origins and organization of cities; the etymology of the name London; the history of its landmarks; the layers of civic bureaucracy; and the essential laws and regulations governing the town.
