Lawrence Porter (1899-1960) was among the few buyers of Canadian art in the 1940s. He acquired the monumental "In a Circle" by Emily Carr in 1946 when the artist was all but unknown... there are a total of firve paintings by [Carr] in the Porter collection. In the early 1950s the Porters continued to acquire important works by A. Y. Jackson, F. H. Varley and Lawren Harris.... Larry Porter, graduate engineer of Princeton, made his name in the shipping, dredging, and mining worlds of Canada." The final record of a significant Canadian collection.. First Edition. Soft Cover.
