In decorative card covers, corners and edges bumped and worn. Spine in brown cloth, no title. Internally, joint cracked but holding, pencil name to fep, 64 pp, 16 full page colour chromo's, not dated but c1887. A lovely children's title. (255*191 mm). Boulger [née Havers], Dorothy Henrietta [pseud. Theo Gift], novelist, published two semi-autobiographical work, Lil Lorimer (1885), and Cape Town Dicky (1888), illustrated by her sister Alice, written for children and designed to teach a love of animals. London: Haldesheimer & Faulkner n.d but inscription dated 1887. 64pp. Pictorial paper covered boards marked and rubbed to edges, with small loss of surface to corners, and with cloth spine. Internally there is foxing to first and last 2 or 3 pages and a little sporadic foxing throughout. Previous owners inscription to top of first page dated 1887. Illustrated with full page colour pictures by Alice Havers and with mono tints in the text by Ernest Wilson.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Published ca 1885 (Gift inscription dated 1887). Occasional foxing. Internal binding is weak along lower 2", but complete in case. Boards have moderate edgewear & rubbing, light soil, but onj the whole the book & plates are quite attractive for 120 yr old children's volume. Unusual So. African setting, in places reflecting the racial attitudes of the time.

Heavy tanning to the first page of advertisements where the blank would be. Top corner of the 2nd leaf clipped. Pages lightly age-tanned with light scattered spotting throughout.. Hardback.
