About This Item
First US edition, hardcover, later printing. Fenno, New York, circa 1900, copyright 1895. Condition is Good: Boards show moderate general wear and patina. Rear hinge cracked with discrete old glue repair. Ink number on inside front board, no other interior writing or markings. Binding is sound. Paper is somewhat brittle leading to a few small closed edge tears. Paginates: blanks, iv, 391, [1 ads], blanks, 74 unpaginated plates. The plates are a major attraction of this edition. Complete as issued. See Myers 6; and Taves V042. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: This is an early, not first issue. Identification of first edition, first issues of this title can be tricky. First US issue boards are pictoral with image of Captain Antifer and no adverts in back. This copy has decorative boards and one page ads at back. The ad here is for "An Unofficial Patriot" by Gardener which was first published in 1894. There are other clues to the date of publication which I will not expand on here. Feel free to inquire.
