Else, Very Good+: shows only the most minute indications of use: just a bit of wear to the lower front corner tip, where the fablic of the cloth over boards is just starting to wear through to the underlying board; mildest rubbing to the cloth, mainly at the rear panel. Binding square and secure; text clean. A clean, sturdy, presentable copy with a clean text. NOT a Remainder or Book-Club. 4to. 319pp. Associated Editors: Roger Eckhardt and Nancy Shera. Designed by Gloria Sharp and Katherine Norskog. First Ed, unstated. Hardback: Lacks DJ. This explorative insight into the life and legacy of the famous Polish mathematician reveals his background and focuses on current research inspired by Stanislaw's vision. The text includes two pieces written by Stanislaw and personal conversations on John von Newmann and Paul Erdos. Stanislaw Marcin Ulam (pronounced ['sta?iswaf 'mart??in 'ulam]) (13 April 1909 – 13 May 1984), was a renowned Polish-American mathematician. He participated in America's Manhattan Project, originated the Teller–Ulam design of thermonuclear weapons, invented the Monte Carlo method of computation, and suggested nuclear pulse propulsion. In pure and applied mathematics, he produced many results, proved many theorems, and proposed several fertile conjectures.
