n.p., n.d.. Unused postcard, very good, with portrait of the anarchist. Undated but appears to be pre-war. The Italian-born Cafiero, a close associate of Bakunin, helped to create a haven for exiled anarchists in 1873 by selling his family property to purchase a farm in Switzerland called La Baronata. In 1877 he participated in a short-lived insurrection in the province of Benevento which led to his imprisonment for approximately one year. In the 1880s he suffered a series of mental crises, including paranoid delusions about the newly popular telephone, and ended up dying of tuberculosis at the age of 45.
