New York: Facts on File, Inc. for Bison Books Corp., 1987. Large 4to, 319 (1)pp., with 171 plates included in pagination. Original blue cloth, stamped in silver to backstrip, original pictorial dust jacket; nearly 200 illustrations, most of which are full-folor reproductions of maps. Title page cut out, fragment taped to rear free endpaper in the form of a colophon, some very slight rubbing to dust jacket, which has one closed tear at top of backstrip. Else near fine. § First edition. Profusely illustrated reference book, which includes an introduction on the production of maps through the ages, and several full-color images of very rare maps predating the discovery of the New World.
