About This Item

Sinclair Lewis (1885-1951) was an American novelist, writer, and playwright. He was the first American author to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature and the first to decline a Pulitzer Prize (for Arrowsmith—he declined because he did not agree with contests where one book or author was praised over another). His works are known for their critical views of American capitalism and materialism, and for his strong characterizations of modern working women. He wrote 24 novels, dozens of short stories, 4 plays and several non-fiction books.

Cass Timberlane: A Novel of Husbands and Wives, was Lewis' 19th novel. Judge Cass Timberlane is a middle-aged, incorruptible, highly respected man who enjoys reading and playing the flute. He falls for Ginny, a much younger girl from a lower class in his small Minnesota town. Ginny becomes bored and leaves him for his boyhood friend. Eventually, she returns to become the good wife. In 1948, it was made into a film starring Spencer Tracy and Lana Turner.

Gray boards with gold lettering on the cover and a navy and gold design on the spine. The spine is a little faded. No dust jacket. The original owner wrote her name (very small, to the point where I can't read it) on the front endpaper. Other than that, the pages are all clean and clear.
