Random House, 1957. 1st edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good++. Hardcover. First edition as per the Younger bibliography. Paper covered boards are flat, not glossy. Text is bound in a single signature. 200/200 is on dust jacket flap. Edgewear and rubbing to lower board edges, corners and spine. Light soil. Text is clean, slight oxidation to edges. Color illustrated dust jacket shows some soil. Rubbed edges. Corners and spine ends are lightly chipped and noticeably rubbed. One inch closed tear to lower left front corner. Two larger closed tears to rear of dust jacket have been neatly reglued. Nice in protective mylar. Always carefully wrapped and shipped in cardboard boxes to protect your purchase.

Synopsis

The Cat in the Hat is a children's book by Dr. Seuss, featuring a tall, anthropomorphic, mischievous cat, wearing a tall, red and white striped hat, and a bowtie. He also carries an umbrella. With the series of Beginner Books that The Cat inaugurated, Seuss promoted both his name and the cause of elementary literacy in the United States.
