Paris: Librairie d'art L. Baschet, 1881. Hardcover. Illustrated contents VG but for faint age toning to page margins. All pages present, but 5 leaves detached and laid in: title page/verso, recto/verso of exhibition plans, pp. xiii through xvi, and 339-340. Rubbing to covers, esp. at hinges, but binding is solid. Wear to cover edges/corners. Art museum ex-lib. copy with number on spine, one or two benign stamps, and a fragile notice.. Brown/bronze marbled boards. Brown leather spine with gilt lettering and decoration. 5 raised bands with gilt. Green marbled end papers. LXVIII + 347 pp. with bw illlus. throughout. Illustrated catalogue of the original works by artists, displayed at the Exposition des Beaux-Arts in 1881 (plan included). 4366 works are listed herein, followed by the circa 380 bw reproductions. With an alphabetical list of artists' names. A very interesting section of narrative advertisements for various art galleries, publishers, printers, etc. (?), mostly written in French, but a few are written in English, depending upon the country where they are located. A wonderful, historic book for the art world, even in this condition. Somewhat scarce.
