London: Privately Printed, 1853. First Edition. Decorated Cloth. Very Good Plus/Custom Clear Mylar. (xi) 107 pages. SiGNED/INSCRIBED in ink by actor Francis Wilson to bookman Irving Way, with a lenghty gift inscription dated 1894. Privately printed by C. Whittingham of the Chiswick Press for private distribution. 4 1/2" x 6 3/4". Edition limited to 1000 un-numbered copies.Original brown blind-stamped decorated cloth. Gilt front cover titles and decoration; teg. Bound by Bone & Son, London (small sticker on rear pastedown). Gift card to Zamorano Club library signed by donor Lawrence Clark Powell tipped in at rear free endpaper. Zamorano Club bookplate at front pastedown. Henry Stevens was born in Vermont, and acted as the London agent for The Smithsonian Institution. According to his introduction ("To The Christian Reader") this catalogue was produced in response to many requests made to Stevens from "my book-loving countrymen" for advice in assembling their private libraries. Stevens' library contained 5751 volumes. Some edgewear, especially at the spine-ends, but Very good Plus or better, and now in a custom clear mylar protective jacket.
