About This Item

Longmans, Green & Co, London, 1956. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Poor Condition. 600 g; X, 11-312 pages, last page blank, in original illustrated dust jacket. Here is the story of a man condemned to death in 1948, charged with violent crimes. He is, or has been by his own admission, a psychopathic hoodlum, a criminal with no pretensions to education or refinement. Yet he still lives while these words are being written (although he may be dead before the book appears) as the result of an almost superhuman effort to master the intricacies of law and stay his own execution indefinitely. For eight years he has defended himself brilliantly -- but he has mastered more than legal profundities. He has found time to read widely, and he has proved himself and natural writer with a hypnotically gripping style; in his own life he has the perfect subject for the exercise of his genius." -- rear panel blurb (the author was executed some six years after the writing of this book) the dust jacket has short tears either side at the top of the spine, and rubbing either side at the bottom of the spine, and has been price clipped. top edge tinted red by the publisher, the endpage is front and back are spotty, but the rest of the interior of the book is clean and also free of annotations. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
