Description:
Louisville: The Filson Club, 1973. Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 8vo. 17pp extract, salvaged from a damaged issue of The Filson Club History Quarterly, Volume 47, No. 3, July, 1973. From the editor, "This brief Journal was kept by James Nourse, Jr., of Berkeley, Virginia when he and his brothers traveled to Kentucky in the winter of 1779 and 1780. The purpose of their trip was to acquire land in the new country, so it was no coincidence that the journey began just after the Virginia Land Commissioners began hearing the settler's claims at the frontier stations." Housed in protective mylar report cover with spine sleeve..

Glenmont, NY: Albany Auction Gallery. PB. good, wraps (softcover) prices realized and notes written in. B&W and color illustrations. This auction represents the collection of noted Shaker collectors Charles and Helen Upton. They contributed much to the Shaker Museum and Library at Old Chatham, New York, in preserving Shaker history and in education about the Shakers. A wonderful treasure trove is in this catalogue with 284 lots, the majority of which have the prices realized written in (up to about 194 - the attendee must have left when the smalls came up). The year is not on the catalogue, but based upon the 1992 date in the introduction, the auction was probably held in 1993 or 1998. 48pp.
