Rare first issue of this important little magazine featuring a stellar roster of contributors, including Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray as well as Beat notables including Burroughs (Schottlaender C13), Corso, Ferlinghetti, et al. Unmarked copy with significant bumps and some general wear.

Rare hardcover 1st edition. Cover has some wear and water marks on the edge. Some shelf wear & corners bumped. Some light tanning. Nice, tight binding. Good for its age. Fictional story of Wannaseska, the Cherokee prophet set during the time the State of Georgia (white settlers) were about to confiscate Cherokee Lands in N. Georgia. The prophet is first hand eye witness and victim to the outrages. Story ends with the Trail, of Tears when the Cherokees agreed to move to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.

Very fine in a dust jacket with minor wear, else fine. The jacket is much more attractive than usual for this book. The scarcest of Welch's novels, especially in nice condition.

First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 255pp. Publisher's original oatmeal cloth, lettered in blue at the spine and with the blue top edge stain, resulting in just a fraction of bleeding to the upper margin of a single text leaf. The binding just a fraction cocked and with some fairly light fox spotting throughout. Former owner bookplate to the front pastedown. Very good in lightly rubbed, marked and chipped yet still very crisp price-clipped dust wrapper. The author's sixth novel, detailing the early months of the Second World War, written in July 1941 following Waugh's return home after the evacuation of Crete, and with a printed dedication to Randolph Churchill who was instrumental in Waugh's wartime commission. Fine in near fine to very good dust jacket, with abrasion to the lower spine around the publisher's name. The author's masterpiece, and one of the most important books of the seventies.

Douglas Duer, illustrator. 335 pp. plus 4 pages of advertisements at back. Text is clean and unmarked but tanned, typical of the paper used in 1912. Light foxing on front free endpapers and title page. Previous owner's attribution stamped on front pastedown. A Western novel about a Mormon woman defending her ranch and the period conflicts between Mormons and Gentiles near the the southern Utah border as written by a classic American writer.
