Very good coloured pictorial paper covered boards showing a little boy sitting on a soldier's lap, he is holding a bugle and the soldier has placed his bearskin headress on the boy's head, dark blue cloth spine, a hint of creasing to top and bottom of spine otherwise clean and sound, some edge wear in the form of rubbing, slight weakness a hinges, advertisement endpapers, tissue protected coloured frontispiece of a monoplane caught in the light of a search beam, slight creasing to outside edge of page, contents, 412 followed by 10 pages advertisements, illustrated in black & white and colour.9.75 x 7.5 inches approx. A very good copy. .

Wells Gardner, Darton & Co., London, 1914. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 412 pages (complete). A packed book of childhood fun in fair to poor condition. The book is scruffy and has been owned with contentment and pleasure. There is sporadic hand-colouring of some illustrations. The board covers are jolly and sturdy. There is wear all about. The cloth spine is also worn but is intact and secure. The contents are foxed, comfortable. The colour plates are clean and clear (one at page 33 entitled 'Soldiers of the Queen' shows the original frontage of Buckingham Palace but confusingly also the Victoria Memorial).
