[BURR MCINTOSH]. Cheerful Philosophy Poems. Self published, Hollywood, CA, circa 1930s. Condition: Near Fine / Very Good. In original fragile red paper wrappers with chips and closed tears to extremities, light crease to middle of cover, otherwise appears unread, pages are clean, unmarked, bright and binding tight. No stains and no foxing to covers or pages. Overall in near pristine condition. Signed and inscribed by Burr McIntosh on the first endpaper dated 1935. One of earliest film pioneers and magazine publishers during the Golden Age of Illustration during the the turn of the century in the early 1900's, published 86 issues of the Burr McIntosh Monthly Magazine from 1903-1910 and featured celebrities and socialites of the time. McIntosh photographed actresses Ethel Barrymore, Lillie Langtry and one of the original Wizard of Oz actresses, Billie Burke. One of the first actors of the Silent Film Era, radio broadcasters and still photographers from early Hollywood in the early 1900s, McIntosh was cast usually as a principle actor co-starring in; D.W. Griffith's film "Way Down East" starring actress Lillian Gish, "Taxi! Taxi!" directed by silent film pioneer Melville W. Brown, a final film performance in director's William A Seiter's "The Richest Girl in the World" starring actress Miriam Hopkins and performed in nearly 70 films throughout his acting career. McIntosh was also a athlete in various sports such as boxing. One of the earliest known signed copies of this book in existence, the poems were from his radio broadcasts. Scarce philosophy book from an early turn of the century publisher, pioneer Hollywood actor and still photographer, signed collectible. 119 pgs. 32 mo.
