A vg set (spine ends, corners and edges worn; marbled paper rubbed; red edges are rubbed in a few places, esp. bottom edge of v1; tear to top third of v5's front joint). This magazine was conceived as a rival to Dickens' 'All the Year Round', and featured many writers and artists of importance. Poets include Tennyson, Swinburne and Christina Rossetti; artists include H.K. Browne, John Leech, John Tenniel, Charles Keene, and John Millais.

Very Good set, Vols. I and VI with hinges cracked yet bindings holding nicely, rear brown end page missing Vol. VIII, small tears to cloth at spine ends. An exceptionally nice set. Though all the volumes appear to have been rebacked at an early date and beautifully executed. (It would not have been noticeable except; the marbled endpapers did not match the marbled edges). A beautiful set, bound in full polished calf, spines flat, maroon and brown spine labels gilt, gilt ruled compartments decoratively stamped in gilt, all edges marbled, remarkably fresh and bright internally, with a few bumped corners. A lovely set.
