Chicago: A.C. McClurg & Co, 1922. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Illustrated by J. Allen St. John. Very Good in an about Very Good jacket, unclipped ($1.90 on rear panel), generally toned and soiled, rubbed and with some small chips at the edges and corners, tape repairs on the spine. Red buckram with black ink lettering on the spine and front board. Bound with a slight forward lean and some reading wear, former owner's information written on the front endpaper, clean otherwise. The fifth Barsoom novel, originally serialized in six parts in Argosy with this McClurg edition being the first book form. Scarce in the original, unrestored jacket.

Synopsis

The Chessmen of Mars is an Edgar Rice Burroughs science fiction novel, the fifth of his famous Barsoom series. Burroughs began writing it in January, 1921, and the finished story was first published in Argosy All-Story Weekly as a six-part serial in the issues for February 18 and 25 and March 4, 11, 18 and 25, 1922. It was later published as a complete novel by A. C. McClurg in November, 1922.
