Otherwise, and in general effect, a very nice copy of a scarce Nineties title, with a bookplate (C.C. Hardcover. Very Good. First US edition of his first book. Author's edition on verso. Some copies have ads on eps. This is the state with plain eps. Spine is soiled and crown of spine has some edge wear. Front and rear boards have faded some. Eps have tanning but book is otherwise internally clean. Front fly-leaf has small chip to upper right hand corner. Rear eps has some cracking at gutter but book is bound quite solidly. Small bookstore stamp on inside of front board.

Rare hardcover 1st edition. Cover has some wear and water marks on the edge. Some shelf wear & corners bumped. Some light tanning. Nice, tight binding. Good for its age. Fictional story of Wannaseska, the Cherokee prophet set during the time the State of Georgia (white settlers) were about to confiscate Cherokee Lands in N. Georgia. The prophet is first hand eye witness and victim to the outrages. Story ends with the Trail, of Tears when the Cherokees agreed to move to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.

Good - full calf binding, gilt decoration to the spine, speckled edges of the text block with head burnished. Corners bumped, wear to the extremities, calf thinning at the hinge of the boards, bookplate of William Ord. Edinburgh on inside of front paste down (bookplate possible of William Ord of Whitfield, MP for Morpeth & Newcastle-upon-Tyne), light tanning throughout otherwise contents clean, bright and tight. 1852 softcover pamphlet discussing the downside of tobacco. When I got this the cover was off. Volume has had some restoration: cover is backed with matching paper and is reattached. Paper and binding are fragile but overall readable with a gentle touch. Primary defect is the corner off the front page. Interior has foxing and stains but no vandalism. I think the author comes out of the same group that published Solomon Spittle (which I also have listed). 1852 is the first year this was published but this is titled "Fourth Thousand" so this is an early printing. Has 8 plates that are included in pagination. 179 pages, complete as issued. An uncommon item generally found in poor condition. This is decent not great (which sometimes is the best you can do). Topic is health problems of tobacco. Discusses addiction, acute toxicity, chronic health problems including heart and lung disease as well as problems of second hand smoke. Feel free to inquire.
