Ownership name and cartouche on half title; blindstamp on title page. Dust jacket in Fine condition. In uncommon publisher's cardboard slipcase/shipping box, with printed label affixed.
First published 1944, Ecke's effort was to deconstruct pieces in his significant personal collection to document and better understand Chinese furniture design. Long considered the definitive work on Chinese hardwood furniture in a Western language. Upon establishment of communist rule, Ecke and his wife stored their furniture collection in the British and US embassies, choosing to ship instead their book collection – some 45 crates. At Christies, 2009, the first edition of this work (Peiping: Vetch) sold for $29,171.
