A Christmas Carol by Dickens, Charles - 1900

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1900. Binding designed by Margaret Armstrong (MA in lower corner of the front cover design) in festive holiday gilt with green holly and red berries. Shelf wear and wear to the corners and spine ends. First signature following the font endpapers detached, but present. The front free endpaper has pulled away from the binding, with the mull showing. The rear endpaper is cracked open also, but no loose signature. Thirty-one illustrations, twelve in photogravure with tissue guards. Previous bookseller notation and the Publisher's Note page indicate this title is one of two volumes published together, the other being Cricket on the Hearth (not part of this lot). 157 pages. A 1967 Saturday Review article by Edgar Johnson, "A Christmas Carol - Biography of a Classic," is laid in at the front of the book. It was found on the last page of the story where it had browned the page. A flawed, but scarce copy in Margaret Armstrong's beautifully-designed binding.. Reprint. Hard Cover. Fair/No Jacket.
