Paris: Comite National de Defense du Cinema Francais, 1948. Evenly toned; some trifling wrinkles. Single leaf, approx. 5-1/4 X 8-1/4 in., printed on one side only. Handbill advertising an event at the Cluny-Palace theatre in Paris aimed at students and specifically to form a student committee in defense of French film. Though unstated here, the context was the re-negotiation of the Blum-Byrnes agreement -- the postwar trade pact with the United States that opened up the French market to competition from American-made films. The event, which included screenings of films by Jean Renoir and "Charlot" (i.e. Charlie Chaplin), featured personal appearances by notables from French cinema, including Claire Maffei and Roger Pigault.
