From the upper cover: "A study of the impact of modern scientific medicine on Africa", and "The Dawn of Civilisation in Eastern Province." From the dustwrapper blurb: "As the practice of modern medicine is a unique combination of science with compassion and concern for the individual, the author is of the opinion that it represents one of the most powerful forces favouring decent living and civilised behaviour in the world to-day. He is convinced from his long experience with the practical problems of establishing the very creditable health service now existing in South Africa, that it would be of benefit to countries in the rest of Africa to adopt the essential features of the Service." .
