First edition. Printed for the Clan Line Steamers by Jarrold and Sons, The Empire Press. Norwich. nd. Octavo. viii, 135pp. Photo portrait frontis., 11 further photo plates. Original blue decorative cloth, gilt and blind tooling to spine, gilt and embossed vignette to upper board. Spine sunned, slight edge wear. Occasional neat pencil underlining. A large number of the Clan LIne's ships were requisitioned by the British Government during the First World War. They were called "The Scots Navy". Of 62 ships at the outbreak of war, 28 were lost.
Only two copies of this rarer edition held in the UK: National Maritime Museum and the City of London Guildhall, who both query the date of publication. Not held in the British Library. The more common Cassells reprint was published in 1924.
