About This Item
1682 1ed CLEOPATRA Jean de la Chapelle French Tragedy Play Egypt Octavian Rome
Jean de la Chapelle was a 17th-century French writer known for his tragic plays and novels. One of his first plays was 'Cleopatra', based on the life and military events of the famed Egyptian ruler. The play was first performed in 1681 and this book-version of the play was released a year later. The play does not follow the history of Cleopatra directly by mysteriously having Octavian disappear and having Octavia and Cleopatra have a face-to-face confrontation.
