Red cloth boards; dustjacket; 126pp. Inconspicuous faint stain to bottom edge of text block, else a fine, tight copy in unclipped, lightly edge-rubbed jacket, Near Fine. Post-war British poet's memoir of a strict Victorian upbringing and his dissipated later youth. The "clip of steel" of the title refers to a device inflicted upon the child by his father, designed to "deter nocturnal erections and to prevent the loss of vital bodily fluids.
