About This Item

Seattle, WA: Wild Cliff Peppermint Farms, General Offices, 504 Central Bldg., [ca. 1920]. Folio. 16 x 8 in. Thick card stock, attached & unused folding stand, rounded at the top, colour lithograph graphics in red, blue, white & black (minor rubbing, minor wear to corners), still an excellent piece. First edition of this exceedingly scarce counter display promoting peppermint drops liquid for women which could be added to cigarettes, which according to the advertising added a refreshing coolness, fascinating scent, and would clear the head. The fantastic image of the flapper wrapped in fringed shawl, is set against the backdrop of a mint plant, with numerous promotional slogans surrounding. Wild Cliff Peppermint Farms was one of the early pioneers in mint farming in Washington State, which harvested and produced a majority of the mint oil, for gum, liquor, and confections. Puff-o-mint appears to predate the introduction of menthol cigarettes, which were first developed in Ohio in 1924, and would later become one of the best-selling brands in the country, largely by promoting the health effects of the throat comfort generated by the mint crystals. No copies located in Worldcat.
