London: Victor Gollancz, 1988. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First Printings of each of the five volumes, Beyond Lies the Wub (1988), Second Variety (1989), The Father Thing (1989), The Days of Perky Pat (1990), The Little Black Box (1990). Becoming increasingly difficult to find as a complete set and particularly in uniform condition. An attractive set, there are a couple of small stains to the top edge of Wub but otherwise clean, free from owner names etc, dustjackets unclipped. Slightly shelf-worn, spine tips lightly pushed, e.g. but overall a VG to Near Fine set.

Description:
London: Heinemann, 1970. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Printing. A wonderful copy of the author's fifth novel, filmed in 1974 with Roger Moore, Susannah York and Bradford Dillman in the leading roles. It sounds like a lifetime ago and yet this copy presents almost As New. Square, tight, with a fresh, white text-block, the most minor of pushing at the extreme spine tips but corners sharp- a really handsome copy. In a beautiful unclipped dustjacket with absolutely no loss of paper but a microscopic chip to the laminate at the crown. There is a line or score across the front panel which may be a production fault - not unduly noticeable although obviously a slight blemish to an otherwise perfect copy. Loosely inserted an adhesive label which has been signed by Wilbur Smith - not a contemporary signature.

Description:
London: Rapp & Whiting, 1973. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. First Printing of the First UK edition which was the first hardcover edition of this title. Original green cloth with gilt titles to the backstrip. Not fine but a VG copy which has a slight lean. Pushed a little at the spine tips but with sharp corners. Minor tanning - or rather, dis-coloration - to the edges of the block but free from owner names, library markings etc. The covers are clean and bright. The dustjacket has the original price of £2.50 at the front flap. There is a small tri-angular chip at the foot of the spine and a small, old sellotape repair to the inside of the jacket above. Minor chip to the laminate of the jacket at the foot also. For best appreciation of condition please examine the accompanying images. Much, much better than it probably sounds this is a very nice example of a very rare book - no spotting/foxing, no previous owner names or library markings etc.

Description:
London: Mrs Marshall's Office, 1952. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Good. A fascinating typescript of Greene's first play, The Living Room, from Mrs Marshall's Office (London) dated Sept 15 1952. 82 pp. The Living Room was first performed in English at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh in February 1953 before transferring to the West End in April where it enjoyed a two-year long run. The play was a huge success and opened on Broadway in 1954 where it was equally acclaimed. The Living Room was first published in the Swedish language in 1952 and in English in 1953. Cannot accurately be described as a fair-copy since there are differences in both stage directions and dialogue between this draft and the final published versions. Probably an early rehearsal script, the timing would fit with the opening night being in February but that is purely conjecture. Embossed stamp at the title page and printed label at the rear. Ribbon-tied in plain pink card covers which are a bit battered with some… Read More

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence. Description:
New York: Random House, 1959. Book. Illus. by Sam March (dust jacket design). Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. Small octavo. Humes's second novel, following 'The Underground City,' both of which led to his being considered by Esquire magazine as having the same promise as two obscure guys named Updike and Styron (whoever they are). Anyway, he met a guy named Leary who introduced him to a little substance known as LSD, and after seriously indulging his fondness for the hallucinogen he became a trifle paranoid and a bit delusional, which pretty much ended his writing career. Humes was co-founder (with Peter Matthiessen and George Plimpton) of The Paris Review. He died of prostate cancer in 1992. Black cloth w/gilt lettering, 184 pages. Mildly cocked, light general wear, in price-clipped dust jacket w/light rubbing, light edgewear, creases to fore-edges of both flaps..
