Ex-Library copy, with expected inserts and inscriptions. Black and white photographic and illustrated plates throughout. Binding remains firm. Pages and plates are lightly tanned throughout. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Slight crushing to spine ends. Wear marks overall. Unclipped jacket has heavy edgewear with areas of loss, heavy tears, chips, and creasing. Tape to inside panels. Light sunning to spine.

New York: Knopf, 1951. The story of how Wilmarth Lewis gathered the largest collection of Walpoliana, larger than all the other Horace Walpole collections put together. This is a first edition, with attractive cover of partially red and white decorative paper and partially red cloth with gilt lettering and ornamentation on spine. Binding itself in very good condition, with only slight fading here and there. Paper cover is a bit more worn, but mostly also very good, despite some wear around top of spine and corners (encased in plastic book cover). Inside pages in clean and bright condition. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
