Raleigh, N.C.: Edwards & Broughton, 1890. 1st ed. Engraved portrait on mounted India paper. 242pp. Very good copy in orig. purple gilt-lettered cloth. Howes W-1. Waddell was born in Ireland and came to North Carolina as a young man, entered military service in 1754, negotiated with the Indians during the French and Indian wars, built Fort Dobbs at the age of twenty-one; gives a good account of the colony's resistance to the Stamp Act (with previously unpublished documents) and an historical account of Brunswick. A lively picture of colonial North Carolina.
