About This Item

Toronto: Thomas Nelson and Sons Ltd., 1937. Book. Illus. by Phillips, Walter J.. Fair. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed and dated, without inscription, by Walter J. Phillips [1884-1963] upon title page. x, 11-125 pages. Index. 32 Colour plates. Black and white illustrations in text. Map-illustrated endpapers. Travel the awe-inspiring Canadian Rockies with acclaimed artist Walter J. Phillips [1884-1963] who supplements the narrative with his wonderful artistic impressions along the way. Phillips moved from England to Winnipeg in 1913 and spent nearly three decades there before being attracted by the artistic potential and grandeur of the Canadian Rockies, upon which his ashes were scattered. Somewhat above-average wear to publisher's teale cloth which is adorned with gilt. Gift greetings upon first blank leaf. General foxing throughout. Binding intact. The dust jacket of this copy is in poor condition so we are also including a dust jacket from a 1962 reprint, as shown in our photo, which presents much better. Both dust jackets now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. A wonderful signed memento of this famed artist..
