In his preface author Bjorn Landstrom explains that he has been collecting material on Columbus for fifteen years, and that the texts on which this book are based were drawn almost exclusively from the numerous and full sources which deal with the life and voyages of Christopher Columbus. Many of the original letters and documents are extant; others are contemporary or near-contemporary copies, in manuscript or print. The essential primary source is El Libro de la Primera Navegacion.
