La Comedie Humaine (Tome VI)

Paperback. Good. La Comedie Humaine is a long series of novels written by Honore De Balzac during his life. Many of the novels first appeared under more narrowly themed collection, but in 1842, Balzac collected them all and wrote an introduction explaining his methods and purpose. The "Human Comedy" was to have the scope of Dante's Divine Comedy, but focused on this life, not the next. Volume VI contains "La Femme De Trente Ans," "La Colonel Chabert," "Pierre Grassou," and "Le Contrat De Mariage." This is the "Edicion Definitive" printed in Belgium for the "Editions Walter Beckers S.A. Collection-Club(R)", and is limited to 2,500. They are wonderfully bound octavos (8"x9 3/4"), with a single column of text, making them a pleasure to read. Each book contains a few illustration. Former library book from the "Editions Walter Berckers S.A. Collection-Club(R)" book club. This book has a tight binding and clean, unmarked pages except where the library has placed stamps, stickers, or other marks. The ribbon page marker in pristine condition. The cover is lightly worn along the edges and the top corners of the front and back covers are bent. The spine is slightly faded. The library has marked the book as follows: there is a stamp on the page ends, stamps on page 1, a stamp and note on the title page, and a stamp on page 19.
