Paris: Venundantur ... apud Johannem Petit / Apud Iod. Badium Ascensium & Ioan. Parvum. & Ioannem Roigny., 1529. Two early 16th century works bound together in one. Both commentaries, in Latin, on Books of the New Testament and both printed in Paris. First Work. Comme[n]taria by Aquinas, complete as follows - fine engraved title page printed in black and red and dated 1529, printed by Johannem Petit, followed by 13 leaves of the Tabula, followed by 236 leaves of text. Black letter, Tabula in three columns, main text in two columns, woodcut initials. Second Work. Epistolae Pauli.. by Cajetanus. Complete as follows: fine engraved title page, dated 1532 and printed Iod Badium Ascensium et al, followed by 11 leaves of index and 231leaves of text; index printed in two columns, main text in a single column; fine woodcut initials. Bound in contemporary or near contemporay vellum with manuscript title to the spine, binding strong but vellum worn and age soiled, evidence of mediaeval manuscript vellum showing on the inside of the binding.. Contents very good, most pages remarkably clean and crisp. Some very neat near contemporary manuscript annotation to the blank margins, single old stamp to the front blank which also carries some old manuscript notes. The annotation is very minimally truncated which suggests that the volume has been slightly trimmed. A little worming only to the last leaves of the second work but confined to the blank fore edge margin, just a few pages slightly watermarked to fore-edge. A very good copy of these two rare early commentaries. Copac lists just one copy of the first - held at Cambridge and four copies of the second work held at the British Library and Cathedral libraries.. Hardcover. Very Good. Folio (21 x 32cm).
