New-York: Swords, Stanford, and Co., 1837. Leather Bound. Very Good. 4 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches. 244 numbered pages. Inscription of "Samuel S. Dutton" in pencil and in 19th century ink to front endpapers. Pencil inscription dated 1870 appearing to be "Alvie Mansfield" to ffep. Lightly foxed but otherwise clean. Bound in brown calf. Professionally rebacked to style with original black morocco spine label relaid. Hobart (1775-1830) was Bishop of New York. He studied theology under Bishop White of Pennsylvania, one of the founders of the American Church. He was a leader of the early high church party and a founder of General Seminary in New York. Armentrout. A very nice copy of this high church devotional.
