London: Elliot Stock. Hardback. Very Good/No Jacket. 251 16mo. 'Being a Fac-simile reprint of the first edition, published in 1653'. Undated, but a reference in the Preface to the use of 'photographic means' to reproduce the woodcuts and some of the trickier type faces, as well as the prose style of the Preface, put it in the second half of the nineteenth century. Bound in boards covered with very thin vellum, with red-brown decoration. Uncut (untrimmed) pages, overall taking this edition towards being an imitation of the original book rather than a simple facsimile reprinting. Condition notes: Some staining to covers, I think from the colour of the boards under the vellum leeching through; spine darkened from age or soiling. Paper age-darkened, with occasional foxing to margins. Previous owner's bookplate to front paste down. Binding and casing firm.
