About This Item

This is a book of humor, with limericks, odd poetry, and whimsical drawings by the author himself. From 1846 to 1895, the various chapters of this book came into being, for better or for worse. After the introduction by Quentin Blacke, you get the following:
  • A Book of Nonsense.
  • Nonsense songs, Stories, Botany and Alphabets.
  • More nonsense Pictures, Rhymes, Botany, etc.
  • Laughable Lyrics: A Fourth Book of Nonsense Poems, Songs, Botany, Music, etc.
  • Nonsense Songs and Stories.
Here's one familiar such song:

The owl and Pussy-cat went to sea

In a beautiful pea-green boat.

They took some honey, and plenty of money,

Wrapped up in a five-pound note.

And so on.

The original sketches of the author in this volume have all been colorized, making them even funnier. If you like limericks, buy this book. If you know a child who would enjoy this kind of thing, again, buy this book. If you yourself delight in songs of this kind, by all means, buy this book. But if you do, remember we won't refund your money or accept a return. It's yours.

Well printed and bound, with a rigid sleeve. A collector's item. Set in Bulmer with Hordon display at The Folio Society. Printed in Great Britain at Butler & Tanner Ltd, Fromme, on Hamilton Wove paper, and bound by them in full cloth printed with a design by Richard Beards who also designed the slipcase and title page, and coloured the illustrations.
