The Complete Pitbull or Staffordshire Terrier

by Denlinger, Milo G

Condition: See description

Washington, D.C.: Denlinger's, 1948. First Edition. Octavo. (4),1-80pp., 1-128pp. illustrated with photographs and drawings, bound in green silk like cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, one bumped corner, previous owner's name, K-9 Country Club stamp and tape residue to endsheets. A very scarce and important work locating only six copies via OCLC. There is an obvious discrepancy found in the book's pagination from 128pp. to 213pp. that has been neglected by previous catalogers. The book has been divided into two sections with separate paginations but the table of contents makes no note of this. The table of contents list the various titled chapters numbered from pages 1-216 when in fact they are consecutively paginated from 1-80pp. consisting of chapters pertaining to the history, bloodlines and what to look for in choosing your dog. Then the pagination is renumbered from pages 1-128 which consist of general training, care and diseases of the dog. Once the additional (4) pages of front matter is added, total page count would be 212. If the blank endpapers are considered, then pagination would be at the 216pp. as noted in the contents which does not match the listed chapters. A scarce and worthwhile book.

Michael Bond - the man behind Paddington Bear

"All the same ... it's a very important name. And I don't expect there are many bears in the world called Paddington!"

A lonely toy bear on an empty shop shelf on Christmas Eve in 1956 first captured the attention of Michael Bond, who kindly shared Paddington with the world.
