About This Item
Reading, Massachusetts: Addison-Wesley, 1986. Hardcover. Seventh printing, June 1986. Black & blue laminated boards, gilt & white titles & decorations. Very Good book in a Fine jacket. Interior appears pristine. Spine straight and tight. Prior owner's named inked to fore-edge and blacked out. Jacket in protective plastic cover. Not from a library. No remainder mark. Not clipped. ix + 483 pages. Cartoons, examples, tables, index. According Knuth, "Insiders pronounce the X of TeX as a Greek chi, not as an 'x', so that TeX rhymes with the word blecchhh. ... When you say it correctly to your computer, the terminal may become slightly moist." Along with precision and succinctness, humor is a hallmark of Knuth's style, although much of the humor is funny only to computer nerds. This book describes how to use the TeX computer typesetting system, which is designed to deal with the complexities of mathematical typesetting.
