Map endpapers, notes, bibliography. The dust jacket is price-clipped, edgeworn and creased and there is a previous owner's name on the back of the front free endpaper. "Mongolia in the thirteenth century suffered from bitter extremes of climate and offered no foothold for settled civilization. But in this unyielding country a nomad leader united the warring Mongolian tribes and then led his armies to conquests that amassed him an empire stretching from the Dnieper to the China Sea".
