Complimentary first edition. The present work is a data-oriented paper. It makes available some of the basic information which the author collected in the Czech Socialist Republic and the Slovak Socialist Republic during the summer of 1969. This report, the first of sever which the author intended from the original field work, briefly surveys the major studies dealing with the Czech and/or Slovak national character, provides a discussion of the instrument employed, and presents an analysis of the basic data obtained in the field.
