Pomona, CA: Unstated. Good. N.D.. Softcover. Original green paper covers, stapled binding. [1928] 71 pages. Illustrated local business advertisements throughout. Laid in recipe dated 1946. A community fundraiser cookbook distributed by the Woman's (sic) Community Club of Pomona Valley. Not much found regarding the club, it was incorporated in 1929 and dissolved in 1979. All the recipes have the contributors' names which range from Pomona to Upland, although many do not mention the area or city, and include Norwegian, Mexican, Danish, English and various regions of the U.S. Most of the recipes are written with ingredient lists, some are narrative. There is no table of contents, not unusual for this age of cook book, sections are alphabetical: Apples, Breads, Candy etc. Some interesting recipes include Walnut Sausage, a vegetarian dish; Spanish Pudding, which although listed in the meat and cheese section (main dish?) sounds more like a nut-based desert to me "(It) ...is a three-layer pudding, extremely light and fluffy when properly made and must be served with whipped cream flavored with vanilla." Definitely a fun one to try. There is a recipe for Fig Pudding with its long 5-hour steam I rarely see. Altogether an interesting collection of many cultures which represent California in its truest form. The cover corners and edges are worn; the back cover, and page 71 is detached, there are a few small spots and discoloration including tone from the newspaper clipping. Overall a complete and interesting piece of history including the household hints and local business advertisement. None found in the trade. One copy found on OCLC, University of Michigan, Janice Bluestein Longone Culinary Archive; Not in Glozner, Bitting or Brown's Culinary America. ; 8vo .
