Slight age browning, occasional marginal foxing or dust-soiling, a bit heavier to last few leaves. Contemporary polished calf, rebacked with onlaid original spine, marbled endpapers, double gilt ruled, gilt-lettered morocco label, a.e.r., a little loss to onlaid spine. The odd marginal annotation; 20th-century ownership inscription to fly. An elegantly bound copy of this important collection, first published in 1848, of the writings of major Latin poets, including Catullus, Tibullus, Virgil, Persius and Claudianus, and a 'Supplementum in Virgilium' with his 'Ciris', 'Catalecta' and 'Copa'. The author, William Sidney Walker (1795-1846), was professor of Greek at Trinity College, Cambridge, and an important classicist, as well as a Shakespearean critic.
