About This Item

London: Alfred A. Knopf/Borzoi, 1930. 1930 First Edition in English. (Published in German in 1929.) 1930 stated on copyright pages (though the statement has been blocked out in blue ink on both copies perhaps because these copies were printed in the US for the British market). 1930 (MCMXXX) is printed on both title pages. Two-volume set (complete) in scarce dust jackets. VERY GOOD in GOOD jackets. A clean, totally unmarked and firmly bound set. Pages crisp and near fine. Red cloth hardcover bindings, titles gilt-stamped on spine and front with decorative blind stamp on front, are clean and bright. Cover edges lightly color faded, most noticeably at spine ends. Volume I bottom front corner bumped. Binding and hinges firm, intact and straight. Jackets, price clipped, are clean with moderate edge wear (small chips and short tears). There is a 2" hole in the back of panel of Volume 1 jacket, affecting the jacket copy. Jacket spines and edges lightly toned. Jackets are in new archival protectors. Translation from the 1929 German Edition by Catherine Alison Phillips. 6-1/2 x 9-1/2". Volume I: xlix + 461 pages plus 11 pages of black & white photos.. Volume 2: [vi] + 430 text pages (463 - 892) plus 10 pages of black & white photos as well as 1-page document reproduction and a 9-page Index.. First Edition in English. Hardcover. Very Good/Good.
